The exploration of rosemary involves uncovering its multiple layers of meaning. Rosemary has been historically used to symbolize memory and remembrance in various cultures, such as being thrown into graves and worn during weddings. The material exploration started with trying to understand rosemary beyond its culinary use. By experimenting with the herb's properties and creating a golden dye from it, I tried to capture its symbolic significance by incorporating it into material and form. After boiling, and solidifying the mixture, I created droplets that later were used as sequins on the garment design. Wearing the material on your body changes our perception and engagement with artifacts.
This process leads to questions about the potential of creating "Material Poetry" and reimagining ceremonies like weddings and funerals by creating materials that capture cultural signifance.
The garment was designed to embody rosemary's coastal nature and ceremonial connotations with simple and soft lines. It was tailored to the model.
